About the Artist

Julian Montalvo is a Miami, Florida–based transdisciplinary artist whose practice navigates queerness through the body, lived experience, and fantasy. Working autobiographically across photography, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, painting, video, and performance, Montalvo builds atmospheric, extra-dimensional worlds—populated by recurring characters, ritual objects, distorted architectures, and uncanny gestures—where meaning fractures and new forms of queer affect can surface. Montalvo holds B.A. degrees in Communication Studies and Philosophy from Florida Gulf Coast University (2017). Their work and performances have been presented at Pérez Art Museum Miami, Coral Gables Museum, Deering Estate, Mana Contemporary, EdgeZones, and the Miami Beach Botanical Garden, and have been featured in Miami New Times, stop.gap journal, and Alionic Magazine.
