Join the collaboARTive Board
collaboARTive is an artist-founded, artist-operated nonprofit expanding affordable studio access and building a stronger creative community in Miami-Dade and Broward. We’re actively growing our board and would love to meet professionals who want to put their skills to work for artists.
What does a board member do?
Board service is governance (setting direction and oversight), not day-to-day management. In partnership with staff, board members help ensure the organization is mission-aligned, financially healthy, and positioned to grow.
-
Establish mission and purpose
Ensure adequate financial resources
Develop and approve the budget
Support fundraising to meet income goals (give and get)
Select, support, and evaluate the Executive Director
Set policies and ensure effective planning
Monitor and strengthen programs and services
Protect assets and provide proper financial oversight (including reviewing the Treasurer’s Report at meetings)
Build a competent board (recruiting and vetting new members)
Ensure legal and ethical integrity
-
Duty of care: Participate actively in planning and decision-making, and make informed, sound judgments.
Duty of fiduciary oversight: Monitor budgets and financial reports; ensure the organization has resources to meet its goals.
Duty of loyalty: Put the nonprofit’s interests first and avoid conflicts of interest.
Duty of obedience: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and remain committed to the mission.
-
We respect that board members are busy professionals. Board service is designed to be meaningful, focused, and doable.
Attend board meetings: Regular meetings (frequency and format will be shared during the interest call)
Committee participation: Join at least one committee aligned with your skills (Finance, Governance, Development/Fundraising, Marketing/Communications)
Be an ambassador: Make introductions, share opportunities, and help expand our circle of supporters
Fundraising support: Participate in “give and get” in a way that’s comfortable and aligned with board goals description
-
