Creative Community Residency: Meet the 2026–27 Awardees
We’re excited to share that three collaboARTive resident artists—Maria Patiño, Marino Chanlatte, and Ivette Lopez—have been selected for our Creative Community Residency with generous support from the Green Family Foundation.
From July 2026 through June 2027, each awardee will receive an 18% reduction in studio fees for one year—a meaningful investment in time, space, and stability for artists who are doing the brave work of building a practice while also making a living.
Why this support matters
Affordable studio space is one of the biggest barriers for emerging and mid-career artists. A consistent workspace doesn’t just hold supplies and in-progress pieces—it holds momentum. This residency support helps reduce monthly pressure so artists can stay focused on process, experimentation, and growth.
As Maria Patiño shared:

Meet the awardees
Maria Patiño
Maria works intuitively, guided by memory and imagination, using mixed media and paper collage. She’s drawn to the aesthetic power of color, texture, and form, and often incorporates scraps from old books, photographs, and discarded ephemera—layering them into new narratives about identity, community, and nostalgic reflection.
Born in El Cairo Valle, a remote village in Colombia’s Andes, Maria has lived in New York and Texas and is currently based in Miami. She is in the final stages of a Master’s Degree in Illustration at SCAD, creating from her studio in the Bird Road Art District.

Marino Chanlatte
Marino Chanlatte is an accomplished abstract painter with a long history of solo and group exhibitions across the U.S. and internationally, including shows in New York, Belgium, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, and more.
Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Marino attended the National School of Fine Arts in Nicaragua, earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida, and holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Puerto Rico. His work is known for its bold marks, rich texture, and explosive color, creating a strong sense of energy and action.

Ivette Lopez
Ivette Lopez is a Cuban-American abstract artist based in Miami. Her work is rooted in emotion, honesty, and the freedom of self-expression, often built through textured layers and neutral palettes that feel both grounded and deeply personal.
After years working in fashion, Ivette returned to painting during the 2020 pandemic—what began as a creative outlet quickly became a renewed calling. Through her abstract paintings, she explores growth, resilience, and vulnerability, creating minimal yet expressive works that reflect lived experience and invite connection.
